A snowy ACEP19 is officially in the books! ApolloMD had a wonderful time at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver and enjoyed meeting everyone who found time to stop by the booth or swing by an ApolloMD EMRA table. We are truly surrounded by the best of the best in emergency medicine during the ACEP Scientific Assembly and appreciate the opportunity to foster long-standing relationships, as well as establish new connections.
Each year ApolloMD introduces a new giveaway opportunity for those who visit our booth in the exhibit hall or any one of our tables at the EMRA Job & Fellowship Fair. Congratulations to our 2019 Apple AirPod winners!
Back for a second year with new information was our quality pocket card. This year’s card focused on MIPS measures and Critical Care . Click [here] if you are interested in receiving a hard copy by mail or digital version via email.
Georgia College of Emergency Physicians Board Member Representation at ACEP
At ApolloMD, many of our team members and executives serve on hospital boards, professional society councils or as chairmen for other organizations relevant to the industry and specialty. This year, three of our physicians represented the Georgia College of Emergency Physicians (GCEP) alongside the rest of the GCEP Board during the opening sessions and chapter meetings.

EMRA Job & Fellowship Fair Sponsorship
ApolloMD was proud to support the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association this year as a gold-level sponsor. Our team represented 12 states across seven different tables in the Southeast, Northeast, North Central and Western regions. ApolloMD leadership and recruitment team shared our practice model with hundreds of residents, as well as an inside look at what it means to be part of the ApolloMD difference.
Each year a number of different awards are given to some of the top emergency medicine physicians. One of our own received the ACEP Section of Careers in Emergency Medicine Longevity Award this year.
Congratulations to Dr. George (Ed) Malcom Jr., an ApolloMD physician at Floyd Medical Center. This award recognizes Dr. Malcom for more than 44 years of active practice in emergency medicine.
Dr. Malcom started full time at the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Department in 1989, previously practicing at WellStar Kennestone Hospital and WellStar Windy Hill Hospital. He graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 1973. Dr. Malcom is well-known and loved by his colleagues, hospital administration and staff, and the ApolloMD team. Thank you, Dr. Malcom, for your many years of dedicated service.

Interesting Sessions & Key Take Away Points
Each year at ACEP more than 300 courses and labs are offered giving emergency medicine clinicians access to the most current educational information and tools, as well as the opportunity to earn CME credits while on site. This year, several of our clinical team members shared his/her personal take-home points about some of the hottest topics in the industry: stroke, opioids and MIPS.
Dr. John Hammock, Regional President, attended several sessions focused on neurological disorders/stroke. Six of his key take-home points compiled from multiple stroke sessions he attended are listed below:
Kristen Karellas, PA-C, Lead APC at WellStar Douglas Hospital, shared a popular opiate discussion point among colleagues during ACEP.
“One take-home point I found interesting was that my colleagues are increasingly using Haldol for chronic nausea, vomiting, & abdominal pain. In light of the current opioid crisis, having a non-opiate option that effectively treats symptoms is an absolute game-changer,” said Karellas.
Dr. Mike Lipscomb, Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer, was invited to attend an informational meeting with ACEP leaders and a select group of industry experts about MIPS Quality Measures. This unique opportunity brings emergency medicine physicians, working ACEP leaders and quality professionals together to pioneer cutting-edge quality measures directly from specialty experts. Rather than CMS controlling the specialty’s MIPS measure, EM professionals will have the opportunity to define what measures to submit into the MIPS Quality Program. Follow-up meetings will continue over the next several months as the group works to bring this initiative to life.
ApolloMD is looking forward to spending time in the stockyards for ACEP20. See you in Dallas, TX!
