Our Commitment to Care

The last couple of years presented challenges for everyone, spotlighting strengths and teaching us valuable lessons about personal and professional growth. At ApolloMD, we focus on building support systems to enhance the wellness, safety, and research opportunities for our clinicians as well as for all those in the industry. In alignment with that focus, we expanded our outreach efforts by donating funds to nonprofits championing these areas —

  • Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation,
  • the Emergency Medicine Foundation,
  • and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Foundation

–mirroring our vision statement: “Healthy Clinicians. Healthy Patients. Healthy Communities.”

PAYING IT FORWARD

In conjunction with ACEP22, we launched a campaign to raise awareness about these initiatives, announcing the nonprofit groups designated as recipients of our donation pledges and encouraging feedback from our colleagues on issues they prioritize. Using a QR Code scanning platform, we conducted a voluntary poll offering participants a method to mark the categories of their deepest concern. The results showed remarkably balanced percentages indicating that our EM community remains united in the mission to underscore the importance of these topics and also hold high esteem for these groups:

Wellness: Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation (LBHF)

ApolloMD partnered with the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation in 2021 for a fundraising campaign and we have continued our relationship with them as they, too, expand their reach. This organization is positioned as a leader in the crucial advocacy that addressed the availability of mental health resources for health care professionals. LBHF proves to be an impressive force for fostering holistic clinician wellness through a variety of measures, using tough issues as a catalyst for actionable change.

Established in 2020, in the wake of Dr. Breen’s death, the Foundation dedicates their work to her memory while striving to convey the urgency in grappling with the critically high degrees of stress and burnout among health care professionals. Their concentrated efforts have already been successful in lobbying for the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Act (HR 1667), passed this year with resounding bipartisan support. With each milestone, the Foundation imparts a positive outlook for the ongoing journey and celebrates the fellowship of colleagues joining in their endeavor.

We’re honored to be a link in this chain of strength and pledge a donation to further the cause.

“The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation is deeply appreciative for the commitment of ApolloMD in helping to advance efforts to protect the mental health and well-being of America’s healthcare professionals,” says President and Co-Founder of the Foundation J. Corey Feist, JD, MBA. “This critical and timely work requires demonstrated leadership across sectors — especially among our nation’s health care systems.  We cannot overstate gratitude to our colleagues at ApolloMD for locking arms with our Foundation in this crucial work.”.

Safety: Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF)

The Emergency Medicine Foundation celebrates it’s 50th anniversary in 2022, marking an incredible presence in the EM community. Sustained by gifts from corporations, various organizations, and individual donors, EMF notes their anniversary as an occasion to identify key topics that will advance the field of emergency medicine through specific projects.

“[This] gives us the unique opportunity to celebrate the contributions we’ve made to the specialty, reflect on the research that is needed next in the field, and start to take action through building our research agenda,” remarks Jodi Talia, Executive Director of the Foundation.

Safety secures a spot at the top of that agenda as EMF strives to find strategies for reducing physical, verbal, and emotional abuse inflicted upon ED professionals. ApolloMD recognizes this issue as one of increasing concern and severity, pledging a donation to EMF for further investigation into the matter while also determining new methods to combat the problems. We’re committed to securing a safe environment for our teams, as well as all physicians and clinicians challenged by the rise in ED violence.

Research: Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Foundation (SAEMF)

The quality and improvement of EM patient care grows stronger by research and the SAEM Foundation is dedicated to supporting influence. The SAEM Foundation invests over $850,000 each year to build the pipeline of academic EM researchers and educators. As the leader in funding research in emergency medicine, SAEMF grants facilitate projects that empower emergency physicians, save lives, and improve outcomes for patients everywhere. Currently, SAEMF invests over $850,000 annually toward that purpose. The ApolloMD pledge endorses the SAEMF mission to improve emergency patient care through supporting the development of innovative researchers, expert educators, and future academic emergency medicine leaders.

The Foundation enables research by and resources for those with great promise and potential to impact emergency care over the course of their careers. ApolloMD sees that mission as a gift for the entire EM specialty and all the communities benefitting from superior care.

“SAEMF appreciates ApolloMD’s support of our core purpose to improve health by investing in academic emergency medicine career development, research, and education, says J. Adrian Tyndall, MD, MPH, President of the SAEMF Board of Trustees. “At a time of great need, we’re ready to make the largest research investment in EM to improve patient care by supporting the development of innovative researchers, expert educators, and academic emergency medicine leaders.”

KEEP IT GOING

Moving forward into a positive direction for our community of health care professionals requires cooperation and commitment to care for each other with the same empathy we show to our patients.
