The Problem

As a major indicator of clinical quality in imaging, mammography recall rates are increasingly being used to evaluate effectiveness. Out of a current annual volume of approximately 66,000 reads, WellStar West Georgia radiologists see over 3,000 mammography reads per year. Prior to partnering with ApolloMD, WGMC struggled with an excessively high recall rate of 18%, eight percentage points higher than ACR’s benchmark of 10%.

The Solution

ApolloMD implemented a 100% performance based compensation model for the team of radiologists. The model included incentive opportunities that aligned with the hospital’s goal to provide top-quality and efficient care.

The Result

Recall rates decreased from 18 percent to 4 percent which have provided a significant cost savings to patients. An improvement in patient satisfaction has also been seen due to less patients scheduling an additional, unneeded screening.
