COVID-19 | ApolloMD Response

Our nation faces an unprecedented situation with the spread of COVID-19 nationwide. We want our patients, clinicians, and hospital partners to know that we stand with them in these uncertain times.

ApolloMD has been proactive with its preparations. We are actively monitoring and adapting to the latest local and federal health developments and guidelines to ensure the implementation of clinical best practices and the highest level of support to our hospital and health system partners. The safety of our patients, families, clinical and corporate team members remains our top priority as this situation continues to evolve.

Before the known community transmission of COVID-19 in the United States, ApolloMD established the COVID-19 Response Task Force, led by Dr. Michael Lipscomb, Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer. Members consist of leaders across all departments of our organization who work to navigate and address the needs of our clinical workforce, hospital partners and corporate team members in this ever-changing environment.

We would like to take a moment to provide an update on how we are approaching the situation as an organization.

For our physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, this includes continual communication regarding COVID-19 testing and treatment protocols, up-to-date online resources via an internal COVID-19 portal, and engaged advocacy with local healthcare organizations. We hold daily calls with our operations teams, lead APCs, and medical directors to assess new information as it becomes available. In addition, we are working with our health systems, local departments of health, and first responder teams to support safe, efficient care in our communities.

From the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been advocates for provider safety. We were early champions of widespread use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in triage across all of our hospital locations. We have asked systems to prioritize cohorting COVID-19 patients away from the ED to minimize exposure to both our clinical teams, and medically fragile patients. In addition, we established an internal hotline to support and track our physicians and APCs exposed to or impacted by, COVID-19.  We intend to stand with our providers during these difficult times.

We also recognize the need for innovative treatment solutions to protect our clinical team members. Through a partnership with RelyMD, we are implementing telehealth options to established health system partners. This platform allows current physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to support our efforts to screen COVID-19 patients remotely and also provides an opportunity to continue working in a clinical capacity in the event the individual is quarantined.

Our clinical operations team is working closely with our partnered hospitals and health systems nationwide to recommend the deployment of split flow models, COVID-19 surge planning, and emergency staffing. ApolloMD is committed to assisting our partners in navigating the recommendations and resources provided by the CDC, WHO, and local departments of public health.

On top of the efforts at the local hospital level, we made outreach efforts to State Governors and Representatives stressing the need for social distancing, additional front-line resources, and widespread testing and equipment deployment.

In addition to the measures we have taken for our clinical teams and partners, we have asked every company employee to do their part regarding social distancing. To support this practice, we implemented company-wide “work from home” policies and have restricted all non-essential travel. Corporate team members are also receiving the most up-to-date information, guidelines, and best practice tips.

As an organization, we understand that we are not alone in this fight. We are actively collaborating with other clinician service management groups across the country to share information, discuss best practices, and build strategies to best support our individual hospital partners and the local communities as they serve. This is a fight that we are all in together.

As one of the country’s largest clinician owned and operated groups, ApolloMD is committed to our longstanding physician, APC, and hospital partners. We are extremely grateful for the commitment you have made in service of your patients. We also want to acknowledge all of the brave first-responders, nurses, and hospital staff who wake up every day and leave their families to serve our communities. We are honored to serve with them side-by-side. Thank you.  We will get through this together.
