The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) is an online database of reports on medical malpractice payments and adverse actions related to health care providers. It was established by Congress to serve as a workforce tool to help prevent providers from moving state to state without disclosure or discovery of previous damaging performance.
Providers and organizations who are subjects to these reports have access to the information but the reports are otherwise confidential and not available to the public.
