The healthcare environment is more complex now than ever. With more advancements, tools and information at their fingertips doctors have an overwhelming job to diagnose and treat their patients every day. Today, we would like to say thank you to all of our ApolloMD physicians for taking all of those late night patient calls, working long hours and always providing top-quality patient care. Dr. Steve Currier, ApolloMD Regional Medical Director, will serve as one of the panelists at GAHE’s Augusta Area Meeting. The expert panel of speakers will lead this discussion centered around the patient experience, why it is important and the implications for delivering quality care; identifying opportunities for improvement based on real patient experience; and connecting patient experience to quality and outcomes as well as to enhance ways to meaningfully engage patients.

Phillip Cusano, MD, Medical Director at Emanuel Medical Center, was named Anesthesia Medical Director of the Year during the 2017 ApolloMD Leadership Conference – Ignite Momentum – held in Atlanta.

“We are honored to recognize Dr. Cusano for his leadership,” explained John Sherman, MD, Chief Medical Officer – Anesthesia. “Phillip is a pleasure to work with and I know he will continue to thrive in his Medical Director role.”

Michael Washington, MD, Medical Director for St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., was named Outstanding Medical Director out of 80 ApolloMD Emergency Medicine Practices across the United States during the 2017 ApolloMD Leadership Conference.

“We are honored to recognize Dr. Washington for his outstanding leadership,” explained Mike Lipscomb, MD, ApolloMD Chief Quality Officer and Regional President. “Michael is a natural communicator and receives numerous compliments from his team members on a regular basis. Whether managing the department or working clinically, he sets the tone for leadership and quality patient care.”

Dr. Washington worked and continues to work closely with hospital administration and the entire ED team on the patient throughput, patient experience, ensuring patient safety and quality leading to decreased LWBS/AMA rates resulting in a reduction from 6% to under 2%.

Vito Capotorto, MD, Medical Director at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, was named Hospital Medicine Medical Director of the Year during the 2017 ApolloMD Leadership Conference – Ignite Momentum – held in Atlanta.

“We are honored to recognize Dr. Capotorto for his leadership,” explained Martin Duclos, MD, National Medical Director – Hospital Medicine. “Vito is a pleasure to work with and I know he will continue to thrive in his Medical Director role.”

Michelle Curry, MD, Medical Director at CHS Blue Ridge, was named Emergency Medicine Medical Director of the Year during the 2017 ApolloMD Leadership Conference.

Dr. Curry was not able to attend the conference due to deployment with the Federal DMAT to fill a Chief Medical Officer assignment.

“We are honored to recognize Michelle, not just for the work she has already done, but for the work she continues to do. Her leadership is an inspiration to all of us,” explained Yogin Patel, MD, ApolloMD President. “Before she was deployed to assist in the devastation in Puerto Rico, she sent an email to her team. In the email she stated, ‘Please bear in mind the level of Disaster Response taking place is unprecedented in NDMS history—to have so many deployments, so many folks involved in such a widespread area at the same time has not been done. Everyone is stepping up and I know you all are doing the same in my absence!’ We thank Dr. Curry for not only her commitment to our organization and the CHS Blue Ridge facility, but her leadership through an extremely difficult time for those affected by Hurricane Irma and Maria.”

Jehangir Pirzada, DO, Medical Director at WellStar Spalding Regional Medical Center, was named Emergency Medicine Medical Director of the Year during the 2017 ApolloMD Leadership Conference – Ignite Momentum – held in Atlanta.

“As one of our newest medical directors, Dr. Pirzada has gone above and beyond to positively impact his facility,” explained Brett Cannon, MD, ApolloMD Divisional President. “Jehangir is a pleasure to work with and I know he will continue to develop his team and facility in his Medical Director role.

“Whatley, a veteran emergency room doctor, had just started the 10 p.m.-to-6 a.m. shift at The Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia, on June 4 when a barely conscious young women arrived by ambulance. …So about 20 minutes into his shift, Whatley called the Georgia Poison Center and sounded the alarm, state officials confirmed.”

We are proud to announce he was one of the nominees for the Medical Director of the Year Award presented by the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services! Dr. Malcom III is the medical director of the ER at WellStar North Fulton Hospital, where he has been a long-standing member of the staff. He is also a part of the Roswell Fire Family, where his father was also once a medical director.
