Set Personal Goals for ACEP16

What is your main goal for attending ACEP this year? Are you a resident or fellow looking for your first job? Are you a board-certified physician or APC ready to make a switch to a new hospital or health system? Are you a medical student there to learn? Do you just want to try out the latest EM technology and products? Spend some time thinking about your personal goal for attending ACEP16. Write it down and take it with you to remind yourself each day why you are there. Although that may sound trivial, these four days in Las Vegas will be packed with countless courses, activities, networking events, interviews and sessions and you will be exhausted. Make sure you accomplish what you set your mind to at the start.

Sign up for Courses

With so much to see and do at ACEP, you can easily find yourself distracted. There are more than 360 courses and labs to choose from this year. Choose the courses you would like to attend before you arrive so you have an idea of what’s on your schedule each day. (BONUS TIP: Popular courses fill-up fast, so early registration is key!) Then you can fill in the rest of your stay with time in the exhibit hall, scheduled mini-interviews, networking parties and ACEP’s Research Forum which is new this year. Also, make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to earn up to 26.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits.

Do Your Research

If you will be seeking new job opportunities at ACEP, do your research early. What region of the country are you interested in? Do you know the physician groups that have practices in that area? What physician compensation model do you find most appealing? Are you interested in ownership opportunities? While you may be the interviewee, this is a great opportunity for you to also interview each group to see if they are the right fit. Pick out at least three groups you find interesting, contact a recruiter and schedule a time to stop by the booth. Reaching out early ensures the recruiter has time to look over your CV, get a sense of what you are looking for and arrange for the appropriate Regional President or medical director to be at the booth when you come, which can result in a smoother and more enjoyable and informative meeting.

Have Fun!

For all of the job seekers and residents, ACEP will often seem like a never-ending job interview which can be stressful. While that may be your main focus for the conference, don’t forget to schedule time to enjoy your trip and have fun. In addition to the official ACEP16 Kickoff Party and ACEP16 Closing Celebration, there are countless other events to attend in between. Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 16th to come hang out with ApolloMD at Searsucker located in Caesar’s Palace. We’ll have music, dancing, heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails! Bring your significant other to this lively event for a chance to be yourself and get to know the genuine and authentic people of ApolloMD without the pressures of an interview. Details coming soon!

Reflect and Follow Up

Congratulations, you survived ACEP16! Now what? Take some time to rest and reflect on your experience. Before going through your notes, do any of the groups or individuals you spoke with stand out? Do you feel a strong positive connection with a certain company? A strong negative feeling about anything? Follow your instincts and get started sending emails or handwritten notes to follow-up with the connections you made.

Good luck! We hope to see you at ApolloMD booth #S3017.
