The American Board of Physician Specialties is the official multi-specialty board certifying body of the American Association of Physician Specialists (AAPS), Inc. It is one of the most distinguished nationally recognized multi-specialty certifying boards in North America. ABPS sets the standard for physician board certifications, provides a forum of communication for addressing certification issues and provides structure for affiliated boards of certification. The ABPS also establishes and maintains professional standards for each medical specialty board of certification and verifies members meet and maintain these standards. In addition, the ABPS reviews and acts upon applications for specialty boards and informs the public about specialty certification, the certification process and the status of certified physicians.
